From: Self To: NR-L,TRC-L Subject: Karlsruhe City Grid 5th tourney Copies to: Matthias Nagy Send reply to: lk@system.ptv.de Date sent: Mon, 15 Feb 1999 16:20:51 +0100 On last Saturday (99/02/13) Karlsruhe City Grid, Germany, staged its fifth official NR tourney. Because of the carnival season the turnout was lower than usual: only 5 players appeared, so I had to play (declining all prizes, of course). The format was "Sealed with a switch" (switching cards with your opponent after every match, followed by new deck construction), 3 rounds Swiss system (pairing 1-2, 3-4, ...), scoring by GMP, tiebreaker opponents' GMP total. Prizes were donated by WotC (thanks, Jennifer!) Final result: opp. GMP GMP gam mat AP 1. Holger Janssen, Ueberlingen, 1A.37.01 7.0 15.0 5.0 2.0 51-21 2. Lukas Kautzsch, Karlsruhe, 65.5B.35 7.0 12.0 4.0 3.0 48-32 3. Martin Mueller, Darmstadt, 50.B5.BE 5.0 15.0 4.0 1.0 42-37 4. Rainer Dittmann, Wuerzburg, C6.BB.00 5.0 12.0 3.0 2.0 39-41 5. Roland Schediwy, Nussloch, 65.5B.42 3.0 12.0 2.0 1.0 31-42 6. Christian Schmidt, Mainaschaff, C6.BB.01 0.0 15.0 0.0 0.0 22-60 Match results (first game: first player = corp): round 1: Holger - Roland 10: 3 10: 0 Lukas - Christian 10: 5 10: 6 Martin - Rainer 10: 3 2:10 round 2: Holger - Lukas 10: 2 1:10 Martin - Roland 10: 5 10: 3 Rainer - Christian 10: 5 10: 4 round 3: Holger - Rainer 10: 4 10: 2 Lukas - Martin 10: 0 6:10 Roland - Christian 10: 0 10: 2 With only 6 players the pairings in the last round had to be oriented on the decks rather than the players, because nobody was allowed to play against a deck he had seen before. With more players there would be more options in the pairing, but in round 4 it could get difficult anyway. One possible solution would be to open new card packs before round 3... Nobody claimed that he had only bad cards - some players even felt that they got better cards after each match won! The next tournament of Karlsruhe City Grid is tentatively scheduled for March 27, 12:00 high noon, at the PTV-Haus, Stumpfstrasse 1, Karlsruhe. It will possibly be a two day event featuring a Sealed tourney on Saturday and an Unlimited Constructed tourney on Sunday. (Jennifer, would you send me a prize package for that one, please?)
